With all of the somber news being reported lately, reading various articles in last Thursday s YourHub was a dose of good cheer.

An I Remember Mama guest is escorted to her table at Tavern Uptown by a Denver fireman. The event, hosted by Volunteers of America, honored women who do not have family in town to celebrate with on Mother s Day. (Sarah Sadler)

Thank you for focusing on the students whose research on Colorado Women s Hall of Fame inductees is now on display at the Denver Public Library, as well as the Boettcher scholars and others doing good deeds in our community. But most especially, thank you for highlighting the Volunteers of America and the high tea they host each year honoring mothers with financial and physical limitations in Denver who have no family in town and would otherwise have spent Mother s Day alone. The photo of the Denver fireman escorting one of the guests into the venue was especially poignant. Volunteers of America, Metro Taxi (which transported the guests) and the Denver Fire Department all deserve recognition for their generosity and kindness.

Karen Libby, Denver
