Despite the explosion of sleek condos and new residents, Denver’s historically black Five Points district once hosted jazz, R&B and blues luminaries from around the country. More so than any other event, Denver Arts & Venues’ 13th annual Five Points Jazz Festival honors that past with a wide-ranging lineup of more than two dozen artists on eight stages. Children’s activities, food/drinks and other vendors are on tap for the free event, which last year drew more than 25,000 attendees. Festivities begin with a New Orleans-style parade at at 11 a.m. and continue through 8 p.m. on May 21, roughly between 26th and 29th streets on Welton Street. (Note: light rail service will be disrupted this weekend due to RTD maintenance).
