Our current fascination with how things are made can be traced to the maker- and DIY-craft movements, reality TV shows and more. But in “How People Make Things,” a nationally touring exhibit that opens at the Longmont Museum on Saturday, creators found inspiration in the factory-tour segments from PBS classic “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” This is about design and manufacturing, which means visitors can use real factory tools and machines to create objects via molding, cutting, deforming and assembly. Carve a block of wax, assemble parts of a real golf cart or race a robotic arm (while clad in safety gear, of course). 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 21 at 400 Quail Rd. in Longmont. $5-$8, children under 3 free. 303-651-8374 or .
