A 20-year-old college student was fatally shot early Tuesday in a Durango home invasion, and police say they have arrested four suspects — all of them from Arizona — in the case.
Officers were called out to a home on the 200 block of Jenkins Ranch Road, where they found Samuel Gordon, who was wounded. He was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Gordon was a student at Fort Lewis College, just southwest of the scene, according to Lt. Ray Shupe, a police spokesman.
Durango police say charges in the case are pending against 19-year-old Kodi Kuauhtli, 22-year-old Alvin Flores, 20-year-old Daniel Wright and 21-year-old Kuauhtleko Garcia. All are from the Phoenix area.
Shupe said he could not discuss what police believe motivated the shooting but said Gordon had a connection to the suspects.
“One of the four that went in was a former (Fort Lewis College) student,” Shupe said of the suspects. “That was part of the connection. It sounds like they were either partying together or at a party together last night.”
Investigators said they are not searching for any further suspects in the shooting.
“The investigation is still ongoing,” Shupe said. “We have several different agencies assisting us.”
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Detective Brad Roach at 970-375-4738.
