A man whose 3-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the hip after finding his father’s gun has been charged with child abuse.
Tagee Robinson, 22, faces one count of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, and possession of a weapon by a previous offender, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
Robinson kept the 38 caliber pistol in a safe, where the boy found it, said Maro Casparian, DA spokeswoman.
But Robinson also “ determined that he could leave the keys” in the safe.
Casparian said she didn’t know if the boy turned the key and unlocked the safe, or if it had been left unlocked.
The boy found the gun and shot himself on Sunday.
Robinson was released on $7,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 23, at 3:30, in Denver County courtroom 2100.
