Violent weather stormed through Kit Carson on Thursday afternoon, destroying a home and toppling at least two semi-trucks on U.S. 287.
The storm was moving northeast at 40 mph, the weather service said.
There were no reports of fatalities, but injuries were reported at the heavily damaged home, 24200 U.S. 40, where the storm caused flying debris and shattered glass, said Zachary Janssen, a Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher.
Trees in the area have been uprooted, vehicles damaged and power interrupted.
U.S. 6 is closed westbound near Cheyenne Wells because of storm debris on the highway, according to the state Department of Transportation.
