DUBLIN, Ohio — Phil Mickelson says he needs to be responsible for the company he keeps off the golf course.
In his first public appearance since he was linked to insider trading allegations, Mickelson said Wednesday he was disappointed to be involved in it. He says he is glad his part in the investigation is over.
In a federal complaint, Mickelson was said to have paid off a debt to Las Vegas gambler Billy Walters with nearly $1 million that was unfairly made in an insider trading scheme involving Dean Foods.
Mickelson was accused only of profiting from the misdeeds of others. He was not charged and repaid the profit.
He says he has not met with the PGA Tour and does not know if the tour will impose any punishment.
