Denver Post Library photo archiveNOV 3 1938 Nature's Great Amphitheater in the Park of the Red Rocks, near Morrison in the Denver mountain parks system, is fast being transformed into one of the finest open-air showhouses in the world. More than 100 CCC workers are at work daily constructing dressingrooms, artistic stairways and seating facilities. All of the construction is of rod sandstone to fit the surroundings. Shown here is the huge stage which has been completed, with one of the natural rocks forming the background. Its size can be estimated by noting the group of people in the center. The acoustical properties of the huge theater are said to be splendid for all types of musicals. Altho the undertaking is not expected to be completed fully until 1940, national park officials who are supervising the work said it could be put to use next summer. It will accommodate 10,000 people.
