Getting your player ready...

Pressing questions that keep me awake when I’m trying to take a nap:

Have these politicians who want to double the minimum wage to $15 an hour really thought this through, or are they just trying to buy votes?

The real problem with this is seldom addressed. To wit: The experienced worker now making $15 will also expect a raise to at least $25. And the middle manager making $25 will want $40.

Almost everything will cost more and $15 will go about as far as $7.50 once did.

Will the Colorado Rockies ever be able to hire someone who can convince the players that it is not a handicap to play games one mile above sea level?

The old minor league Denver Bears won six league championships and a Junior World Series and altitude was seldom mentioned.

Speaking of baseball, did you ever expect to see the day when a major league ballplayer would take time off during the season for paternity leave?

What would Ty Cobb think about that? Would Cal Ripken have taken three days off?

Of course, who would have thought a Denver Bronco stalwart would miss team workouts so that he could practice for “Dancing With the Stars”?

If the government (taxpayers, actually) should provide a free college education for everyone, can I get a handout to finish up my degree?

If not, do I have a valid age-discrimination lawsuit?

OK, so scientists have now decided that climate change is going on up on Mars. But why haven’t we spotted any Martians driving SUVs?

Speaking of SUVs, why do people use the current price of gas as criteria for selecting the size of a new car?

Presidential candidates used to promise to help the downtrodden and the less fortunate. Now they propose to come to the aid of the “hard-working middle class.”

What does that tell us?

Do these “animal rights” organizations really care about the actual welfare of animals, or are they just ticked off because circuses and aquatic parks make a profit “exploiting” them?

If domesticated elephants were put back in the wild, they wouldn’t survive for long. Ditto for the whales from SeaWorld if they were placed in the ocean, as the activists propose.

Since the feds are now telling us we may now use any public restroom we choose, regardless of sex, does it make sense to provide two?

Think of the money that could be saved with one big unisex facility.

Is it sexist or common sense?

Some traffic engineers in China have decided to create special parking places for use only by women drivers. They are 50 percent  wider than normal and are lined with pink paint.

Why don’t more people have a sense of humor?

For instance, one of the guys who stocks the shelves at my local King Soopers arranges the boxes of upside-down cake mix so that they are — appropriately — upside down.

Little things can bring chuckles.
