A home invasion near Colorado College late Sunday left one person with serious injuries, Colorado Springs police say.

The break-in and assault happened about 11:30 p.m. on the 1100 block of North Weber Street in an area filled with houses rented by students.

The victim reported to police that a man broke into the home through a back door and was armed with a box cutter. The suspect then assaulted the victim, causing serious injuries.

“The victim was able to get the weapon away from the suspect, and hold him down until officers arrival,” police said.

The suspect, Terry Ausbun, was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries he suffered during the altercation. He was then moved to the El Paso County jail, where he is being held on suspicion of first-degree burglary, second-degree assault and criminal mischief.

Ausbun, 30, is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail, records show.
