A woman driving the wrong way on Interstate 25 near Johnstown struck a Colorado Department of Transportation worker early Monday morning.

The driver, who had a passenger in the vehicle, was traveling northbound in a southbound lane when she hit the worker and then plowed into the employee’s truck.

The CDOT worker, the driver and a woman who was a passenger in the driver’s car were taken to a hospital in serious condition, said Colorado State Patrol Trooper Tim Sutherland.

The accident happened at 1:37 a.m., and alcohol is suspected to have played a role in the crash.

All southbound lanes near the crash were closed temporarily after the accident but have since reopened, Sutherland said.
