Getting your player ready...

The first time went so well that they’re doing it again.

The Broncos will host the San Francisco 49ers for joint practices during the preseason this summer, an NFL source confirmed Tuesday. Dates, times and specific plans are being finalized.

The Broncos will host the 49ers in the preseason home opener at 7 p.m. Aug. 20 at Mile High. It is Denver’s second preseason game.

Last season, the Broncos hosted the 49ers on Aug. 26-27 before their Aug. 29 game at Mile High. The atmosphere was fairly docile with no significant altercations.

San Francisco moves the needle as an opponent because of the Broncos’ interest in quarterback Colin Kaepernick this offseason and new coach Chip Kelly joining the 49ers after his tumultuous departure from Philadelphia.

Kelly told San Francisco reporters Tuesday that his team would be holding joint practices with the Houston Texans and the Broncos.

In 2014, the Broncos hosted the Texans for joint practices in heated sessions filled with jawing and fights.

The benefit of joint practices is that teams can get multiple sessions against a different opponent in the midst of preseason roster cuts and depth-chart formations.
