Colorado Rapids midfielder Jermaine Jones likes scoring goals.
He’s got three in seven games since joining the Rapids — that hot streak continued Tuesday as the U.S. international scorched a low finish past Costa Rican goalie Patrick Pemberton to put the Americans up 2-0 in the 37th minute of the Copa America Centenario group stage match. Seattle Sounders striker Clint Dempsey, who opened the scoring on a 9th-minute penalty kick, set up Jones’ strike.
Jones is the first Rapids player to score a goal for the U.S. senior national team since Conor Casey scored a brace against Honduras in a World Cup qualifier in San Pedro Sula on Oct. 10, 2009.

The goal was Jones’ fourth career strike for the U.S. in 62 games.

The U.S. extended the lead to 3-0 by halftime on a Bobby Wood goal. Graham Zusi made it 4-0 late in the second half.
