DeMarcus Ware again stood on the sideline of the team’s practice field at Dove Valley and observed the second day of mandatory minicamp.

Ware has been dealing with a lower back injury that sidelined him for five games last season. On Tuesday, coach Gary Kubiak said Ware was “doing really good” in his rehab and that “there’s been some real positive news in the last four or five days that kind of have been working towards some things that have been helping him out, so I think he’ll move in the right direction.” But while he’s progressing, the Broncos are remaining cautious, and he’s not expected to participate Thursday.

“I think he could,” Kubiak said. “I think he’s very close in what he’s doing, but I don’t think it makes much sense. What do we have here? Four days or something like that to really do that. We’ll get the entire summer to make sure he’s feeling good before we get back out there.”

Vets rest. Kubiak rested a number of veteran players Wednesday to keep them fresh and give the younger players extra repetitions. Cornerback Chris Harris, defensive end Derek Wolfe, receivers Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, and safeties T.J. Ward and Darian Stewart were among those who didn’t participate in the team drills.

“Everybody is fine,” Kubiak said. “I’ve had that rhythm the whole way. Just because we call these three days minicamp, you guys know that we’re operating no different than what we really do in OTAs (organized team activities). I think our schedule has been good. Our work has been good. I want to keep that same routine until we get through.”
