A man in his 50s armed with a long rifle — yelling threats from a third-floor apartment balcony in downtown Denver near the Greyhound bus terminal — opened fire on police Sunday night.
Denver police converging on the building at 20th and Arapahoe streets returned fire.
The shootout ended when police fired a shot that hit the man in an arm, Denver Police spokesman Eranda Piyasena said at the scene.
The suspect was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of “non-life-threatening” injuries, Piyasena said. “We don’t know what he was saying.”
A caller reported the threats and rifle about 9:17 p.m., prompting at least six police cruisers to respond.
No officers were wounded. It wasn’t clear how many shots were fired. Police closed off Curtis, Arapahoe and 20th streets for more than an hour as they investigated.
