Denver prosecutors file charges in fatal Christmas Eve crash

Jorge Robles has been charged with one felony count of vehicular homicide in the death of a 52-year-old man

Denver prosecutors filed formal charges against a 22-year-old man accused of causing a fatal accident on Christmas Eve on Interstate 25.

Jorge Robles was charged with one count of vehicular homicide, a felony, according to a news release from the Denver district attorney’s office.

Jeffrey Koontz, 52, was killed in the early on the morning of Dec. 24. The accident happened near I-25 and Colfax Avenue in Denver.

Witnesses told investigators that a woman ran from the crash site.

A man in the passenger seat of the at-fault vehicle told officers that the woman who ran from the crash was responsible, according to an arrest affidavit. But investigators later determined that Robles’ blood was on the steering wheel of the vehicle that caused the accident.

Robles was , according to the news release. He remains in custody on a $50,000 bond.

Robles’ second advisement has been scheduled for 8:30 on Wednesday in Denver County Court.
