One person was injured and one person was shot early Wednesday morning in a four-vehicle crash at Colfax Avenue and Speer Boulevard, according to Denver police.
Police said two people had been transported to a hospital. One had a gunshot wound “to lower extremity” that was not considered life-threatening.
Police recovered a gun after the crash, according to .
The chain-reaction crashes happened at 4:07 a.m., said Raquel Lopez, Denver police spokeswoman. She said police were investigating and could not release more information.
About 7:30 a.m., a white minivan with two passenger-side windows missing and a badly damaged windshield remained at the scene of the collision. Gashes in the Colfax Avenue road bed and tire tracks leading to the van’s position suggested it had come from Colfax onto the sidewalk and to the edge of the southbound Speer.
The vehicle plowed into a small tree, and the tree lay in front of the van, sticking out into the road.
Investigators could be seen taking photographs of something on the weed-choked border on the west side of the Cherry Creek trail, which runs to the side and below Speer Boulevard.
The tree and van were moved from the scene by 8 a.m.
The investigation led to delays in rush-hour traffic, but all lanes of Colfax Avenue and Speer Boulevard were reopened before 8 a.m.
No information about possible arrests has been released.
