Train service between DIA and downtown Denver ran into issues Wednesday evening with up to 45 minute delays and bridged bus service.

RTD announced the delays, between 30 to 45 minutes, on Twitter, saying a train that lost power at East 38th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard.

The cause of Wednesday’s problems are “yet to be determined,” spokesman Nate Currey said in an email.

A damaged portion of overhead catenary wire, which supplies power to the trains, was snagged by a pantagraph, the arm above the train car which runs along the power line. The snag damaged the pantagraph, which caused the power loss, stranding the train, Currey said.

Other trains were forced to single-track around the idle train, which resulted in delays and the need to use the bus bridge.

The first RTD Twitter post about the University of Colorado A Line issues was at 5:17 p.m.

RTD announced on Twitter at 7:09 p.m. that the A Line trains were back to “running at full service” and that the bus bridge was over.

Delays, however, lingered as trains attempted to get back onto schedule.
