As of midday Thursday, about 284 Colorado people had donated to help Florida hospitals that treated victims. Though Bonfils did not send blood to Orlando, the nonprofit is affiliated with other blood-donation networks that did, including Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Blood Systems. Bonfils and Blood Systems, partners since 2014, announced Thursday that they will merge Jan. 1.

Lambert said 520 appointments were made by phone Monday, a 60 percent increase over the 325 phone appointments typical of a Monday.

Donors are giving under group code 7300, a code that will exist indefinitely.

People wishing to donate can make an appointment by calling 303-363-2300, booking online at  or by walking in to any of Bonfils’ seven metro locations (though appointments are preferred).
