Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump reiterated this week that President Obama should use the term “radical Islam” when referring to events like the Orlando shooting.
For Trump and other Republicans, Obama’s failure to use the term suggests he doesn’t understand the nature of the threat facing the country.
Obama’s reasoning for not using the term is that it could needlessly alienate the majority of Muslims who have no connection to terrorism. Responding to Trump, Obama asked Tuesday: “What exactly would using this label accomplish? What exactly would it change?”
