Sports Authority cutting another 373 employees at HQ, CEO has already worked his last day

Last workers will leave the building around Dec. 28

Englewood-based Sports Authority has begun another round of corporate layoffs, including its CEO.

The bankrupt sporting goods retailer this week notified the state of Colorado of 373 additional layoffs as it continues to wind down corporate operations at its headquarters, 1050 W. Hampden Ave., in Englewood. The filings, which became publicly available on Friday, document termination dates through Dec. 31.

CEO Michael Foss has already worked his last day. The layoff for the CEO position was effective June 10, according to the paperwork filed with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.

Workers in accounts payable, engineering and delivery supply will be among the last out the door include, the documents show.

Last month, Sports Authority by June 3. However, the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed then did not appear to account for all corporate operations, which were said to total more than 770 employees at the time Sports Authority .

The company had 2,400 employees in Colorado, including those at the corporate office, as of March 1.

The headquarters closure was expected — Sports Authority was unsuccessful in finding a buyer for its business and now is  in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

The of what was once its second-largest employer. City officials say they hope to lure a primary employer or multiple primary employers to occupy Sports Authority’s two buildings off Hampden and Santa Fe Drive.

Sports Authority officials could not be reached for comment.
