A man who told a teller that he was armed with a bomb robbed a bank Tuesday in Edgewater.

The incident happened at about 10 a.m. at the Bellco Credit Union, 1931 Sheridan Blvd., according to an FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force media release.

The robber passed a note to a teller that he had a bomb. He then fled in a white Dodge Charger with a temporary license plate. The number is unknown.

He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A short time later, officers spotted the suspect vehicle near West 26th Avenue and Kendall Street, as the suspect parked it and got out on foot, said Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey.

Witnesses directed responding officers to an apartment that the suspect ducked into, Mackey said.

A perimeter was set up and a regional SWAT unit, with officers from Arvada, Golden and Jefferson County, was called in.

The apartment building in question was evacuated and officers searched a unit, but the suspect was not found.

Officers from Denver and Lakewood also aided Edgewater during the incident.

The robber is described as a Hispanic man, in his mid-to-late 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build, short black hair and possibly tattoos on his face or neck. During the robbery the man was wearing a dark-colored Colorado Mammoth jacket, light-colored jeans and light-colored shoes.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867), or send a text to 274637 (CRIMES) and title DMCS and enter a message.
