The driver of a sedan was killed late Monday in a two-vehicle Colorado Springs crash after turning into the path of an oncoming sport utility vehicle, police say.

The wreck happened at about 10 p.m. in the 2700 block of North Academy Boulevard, where the motorist was trying to turn left into a parking lot.

A passenger in the sedan was also injured but is expected to survive, according to police.

The driver of the SUV and a passenger in that vehicle also were injured — both are expected to survive — and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Colorado Springs police say their major accident unit is investigating. The name of the driver killed in the wreck has not been released.

Investigators say the death represents the 13th traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs this year.
