
Frontier Airlines passengers soon will be able to bypass the slowest security lines at airports across the U.S., including Denver International Airport.
The Denver-based ultra-low-cost carrier confirmed Tuesday that it will opt in to the by the end of September — if not sooner — joining 10 other carriers at DIA that offer their passengers access to the expedited security program.
Fellow budget carrier Spirit Airlines also plans to join PreCheck starting this fall, according to the .
“We’ve wanted to offer it for a long time,” Frontier spokesman Jim Faulkner said. “We’ve been working on the technology side of it with Navitaire (the airline’s reservation platform) to develop it and with TSA to be involved.”
Airlines that participate in PreCheck allow passengers to gain access to expedited TSA screening by collecting their known traveler number at the time of booking. Passengers must pass a government background check and pay $85 to get a known traveler number and join PreCheck, a membership that lasts for five years.
TSA hopes that half of all air travelers departing from DIA eventually will enroll in PreCheck, although to the leading into this year’s busy summer travel season.
Currently, Aeromexico, Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country, United Airlines and Virgin America participate in PreCheck at DIA, according to .
With Frontier jumping on board this summer, — United, Southwest, Frontier, American and Delta — will all be funneling passengers into the expedited security lines. Spirit also operates routes out of Denver.
“It’s great news. We’ve been working very hard with our partners at TSA to get the word out about PreCheck services,” airport spokesman Heath Montgomery said. “It does help people move faster through the lines. It’s a great thing for passengers, and we’re excited to see more carriers adopt it.”
