“Well, this was a first for a (DUI) checkpoint,” Lakewood police said on their Twitter account. “But we are in Golden, so maybe we shouldn’t be surprised …”

Back in 2013, a 45-year-old Colorado Springs man in Boulder after University of Colorado police interrupted what he claimed was a 600-mile journey from Larkspur to Bryce, Utah, to attend a wedding.

Lakewood police didn’t report any arrests from the horseback rider checks on Tuesday.
