2016 NBA Draft Fashion: The classiest class yet?

Let’s get one thing straight — I’m not here to talk about basketball. Fashion only.

Getting your player ready...

Let’s get one thing straight — I’m not here to talk about basketball.

Sure, I’m familiar with the rules of the game. I participated in a non-monetary March Madness bracket this year. And I know every single player that was on the .

If you were also in Ms. Hutchinson’s third grade class, you’d know that I did a book report on

I even played on the basketball “B” team in seventh grade — but that’s where my basketball knowledge ends. .

When it comes to fashion though, I’m not stuck in the 1990’s. I’m up-to-date.

So when it comes to the , I wonder: Do all those former high school jocks know how to ?

Will they listen to their mothers and get their first, expensive, three-piece-suit tailored? Or risk it all for a flashy, flavor-of-the-month to-do,

Only time will tell.

The importance of undergarments

Great outfits begin when you’ve got an even better base: Underwear, shoes and socks.

Socks are your chance to add a hidden gem to your threads — same with the shoes. I don’t know whose face is that is, but does it really matter? No one else is showing off mugs on their shins. Denzel Valentine gets an A.

Using fanfare to your advantage

Here we see Buddy Hield, signing autographs and giving his painted-face-fans what they really want: An up-close and personal view of his white tuxedo jacket and deep red bow tie.

Had he not put in the effort to give them some face time, I might say Buddy’s coat is straddling the fine line of Grade: B+.

A missed opportunity

Next up: Ben Simmons. The No. 1 pick. The belle of the ball. And this is what he wore.

That flat bill doesn’t help — but at least it adds some much needed distraction from a yellow-ribbon tie that’s so square even his jacket doesn’t want to be seen with it.

I hope Simmons’ first order of business as a 76er is to fire his stylist. Grade: C

Shiny objects

NEW YORK, NY - JUNE 23: Brandon Ingram shakes hands with Commissioner Adam Silver after being drafted second overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 2016 NBA Draft at the Barclays Center on June 23, 2016 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. Now we’re talking.

Brandon Ingram knows tonight is his time to shine, and he’s got the jacket to prove it. He could have monitored his facial hair better, but who knows how fast that thing grows. Grade: A-

Ensconced in velvet

Dejounte Murray’s got a part in his hair and a tribute in his jacket. Wait a minute — a velvet jacket? In the middle of June? in New York? Talk about an ensemble fraught with danger. He’s livin’ on the edge, and I love it. Grade: A

A pop of color

Fresh-faced Skal Labissierie makes a seat on the bus look like a million bucks on a yacht. Is this the only player we’ve seen so far who actually dressed in an appropriate fashion for the season? Grade: A.

A bad choice

I can’t believe my parents sold the tie my brother wore to his Bar Mitzvah in 1997 to Deyonta Davis. And without even asking us kids first. Grade: C.

What a haircut

Men everywhere should go to their barbershop and ask for the Kris Dunn. That hair makes a plain white button down and a crooked bow-tie look mighty fine. “Makes me want to move to Minnesota” fine. Grade: A

The true meaning of PSA

Pocket Square Action.

The Nuggets’ bench just got a little classier. So what if Juancho Hernangomez “stuffed square” look? Take it from him: “I love this suit. I never wore a bow before, but I love it.” Grade: B+

I’m speechless

Perhaps Jakob Poeltl got this advice before he left the house: Just stare. Don’t smile. Don’t wash your face. Don’t do your hair. Don’t worry about that fact that you still can’t grow a mustache. Just wear what you think is your best suit and take a ride to Brooklyn on this bus. D.

Red: The right way

Jaylen Brown sure has a way of making a green flat bill match a ruby-toned tuxedo jacket without putting Christmas in everyone’s minds. Grade: A

Owning the spotlight

Malik Beasley

Look at Malik Beasley strut his stuff as if the stage were a runway. Do I spy a pocket square? A boutineer? A gold watch? Let this man into the club first. Don’t make him wait in line. Grade: A

A bold move

NEW YORK, NY - JUNE 23: Caris Levert shakes hands with Commissioner Adam Silver after being drafted 20th overall by the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the 2016 NBA Draft at the Barclays Center on June 23, 2016 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. An interesting choice by Caris Levert. Did he think he might be drafted by the Michigan Wolverines tonight? Grade: C+

Red: The 1980s way

NEW YORK, NY - JUNE 23: Malachi Richardson poses with Commissioner Adam Silver after being drafted 22nd overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the first round of the 2016 NBA Draft at the Barclays Center on June 23, 2016 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. Last but not least, let’s take a look at Malachi Richardson, loyal servant to the lost decade of fashion. Is that a black turtleneck sneaking out? Where are the clip-on earrings? This suit is Mike Silver’s final chance to look good. But next to that jacket? Good luck. Grade: B

The recap

I’m proud of this class and what they’ve accomplished in terms of two-toned tuxedo jackets and bow-ties. Pieces like that will never go out of style. Remember: Whatever you put on, wear it with confidence and pride. And look like you’re having fun. Even if the tie looks like it’s from 1997.
