Re: “,” June 17 news story.

The recent filibuster by Democratic senators, including Colorado’s Michael Bennet, reveals the quintessential Washington morass that infuriates so many. It was clear within hours that the Orlando slaughter was carried out by a demented jihadist, unmistakably motivated by the hate that spews from the butchers in Raqqa. In characteristic response, Senate opportunists launched a misdirected furor over “doing something” about guns — amounting to little more than a paper shield — while shamelessly assuring us that their new law will work to protect us from the tentacles of the Islamic State monster.

Inexplicably, these same public servants are in full campaign mode declaring, as they quibble, that Washington is broken and the way to fix it is to send them back to niggle and nit-pick some more. It is beyond insulting that so many politicians regard us as dim-witted fools. No one should wonder at the anti-establishment fervor that permeates this year’s elections.
