What is doing to Future is entirely unfair.

When “Panda” dropped, many compared the Brooklyn native’s flow to Future’s syrup-drenched one, but with the release of Desiigner’s mixtape “New English,” itap time for the comparisons to cease. Desiigner is the equivalent of off-brand perfume sold to consumers who don’t know what CK For Men actually smells like. His songs are catchy, but the uncanny similarity to any of Future’s songs is distracting and insulting to any true hip-hop listener.

“New English” is meant to be operatic and melodic in some places, a likely throw to Desiigner’s vocal upbringing in the church. The production is filled with street and trap beats made famous by other Atlanta rappers, but itap his flow thatap a direct rip off of Future’s creativity. The scratched voice, hoarse vocals and stuttered rhymes belong entirely to Future Hendrix. Itap a wonder someone at G.O.O.D Music (Kanye Westap label that signed the MC) doesn’t stop him while he’s ahead.

From a content perspective, Desiigner’s lyrics are less drug-usage fueled and based more on his own violent tendencies through drug sales. “Shooters” is an easy street lullaby finding Desiigner bragging about his affiliates and the big shooting toys they carry, while “Jet” features Pusha-T and is about, you guessed it, having enough money to buy a jet.

We do learn on “Jet” that it was King Push who signed Desiigner to G.O.O.D. Music, so at least we know who to blame for this farce. “Da Day” and “Talk Regardless,” could easily be found on any one of Future’s past mixtapes, save for the content: elementary prose about being the man around town and hanging out with Kanye West.

Desiigner’s copy cat style is not only offensive because the basic principles of hip-hop are built on creativity; itap offensive because itap not even that good. He has a great texture to his voice but, what makes Future so incredible is vocal clarity and writing. He’s not creating something new so much as studying the formula of a pioneer and watering it down in the process. What’s worse, it almost sounds like he did it on purpose.
