Firefighters are making progress in containing a fire that has burned dozens of acres of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests, according to a news release from the U.S. Forest Service.

The release states the Rosebud fire, which is about 52 acres in size, is 60 percent contained. Rain hit the fire Wednesday afternoon, and additional storms are projected for Thursday and Friday.

“A full suppression strategy is in place to aggressively fight this fire,” said Lee Ann Loupe, a spokeswoman with the Forest Service.

Another fire, the Kelso fire, burning on the north end of the Uncompahgre Plateau in the Kelso Mesa area also received moisture on Wednesday, slowing the rate of spread, the release stated.

“Firefighters continue to actively manage the fire,” Loup said.

Two others, the Brushy fire and Pitch fires, “are confined and controlled and remain in a monitor status by local fire authorities,” Loupe said.
