A 36-year-old man was sentenced Thursday to 80 years in prison for lighting several people on fire during a 2012 attempted robbery in northwest Denver, prosecutors say.
Terrance Hurt had been convicted of three counts of attempted first-degree murder and four counts of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, burglary and two counts of attempted aggravated robbery. The Denver District Attorney’s Office says he was also found guilty of first-degree arson and fourth-degree arson in the case.
“In December 2012, Hurt entered a home in the 4300 block of Lipan Street and sprayed gasoline on numerous residents and then lit them on fire as he tried to rob them,” the office said in a news release. “Four people were injured, two (of whom) suffered serious bodily injury.”
Authorities say the encounter was connected to an earlier robbery of an Ace Cash Express store, in which Hurt used gasoline and set the business’ building ablaze.
