Meow mayhem
Celebrate your fondness for felines at the annual Dumb Friends League CatFest on July 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Quebec Street Shelter (2080 S. Quebec St., Denver.) Admission is free. Purrfect for families, the event highlights adoptable cats and kittens, plus features a purebred cat exhibition, clicker-training demos, behavior advice from experts and a “Meow Market” with dozens of vendors selling food and cool cat-related merchandise. Families can pounce on the games and kids activities, as well as fun photo opps and live music. Find a friendly feline you want to take home? Adoption fees are just $10 for adult cats (1 year and older.)
Brain freeze
Freeze, you’re it! Cool down with a traditional summer treat from 7-Eleven. The ubiquitous convenience store is celebrating its 89th birthday by giving everyone a free 7.11-ounce Slurpee on July 11 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. In the past, many locations drain their Slurpee machines early, so plan accordingly. Itap also the perfect opportunity to celebrate by sipping on its limited-time Birthday Cake flavor. Limit one per customer, while supplies last. With so many locations, finding one on your travels should be easy. The brain freeze is free, too.
Udder-ly free
If you’re in the moo’d for a little fun, stop by Chick-fil-A on its annual Cow Appreciation Day. On July 12, anyone wearing anything cow-like will receive a free entrée. Sorry Chick-fil-A fanatics, they no longer offer a free combo meal for Cow Day. Instead, this year customers in any cow attire may select any breakfast, lunch or dinner entrée, including sandwiches, nuggets and salads. Thirsty bovines can choose a milkshake, iced coffee or frosted lemonade instead of an entrée. Kids dressed like a cow may pick a free Kid’s Meal. The offer is available from opening (6 a.m. at most locations) to 7 p.m.
Pancake party
Blow out the candles and bring on the butter and syrup. To celebrate its 58th anniversary, IHOP is serving up a short stack of buttermilk pancakes for only 58 cents on July 12. Hop over to IHOP for the delicious deal from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Limit one short stack per customer, while supplies last. The price is just a few pennies less than its original price of 60 cents back in 1958.
Anniversary toast
Quiznos is celebrating 35 years of toasting sandwiches by offering its Ciabatta Toasties for $3.50 each for the summer at participating locations. If you’re hungrier, upgrade to a chips and drink combo for just $2 more. Customers can choose from Little Italy, Ham & Swiss or Southwest Club. Regulars can also download its new loyalty app and earn a free four-inch sub with the purchase of chips and a regular fountain drink. There are 20 locations in Colorado.
