A grass fire shut down a section of Interstate 70 and C-470 near Golden on Sunday afternoon, according to the State Patrol.

The fire is on a hillside near the Morrison exit on I-70, according to information provided by the State Patrol’s Golden subdivision.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff, the fire started when trash blew out of a truck and hit power lines.

At about 5:20 p.m. Jefferson County Sheriff tweeted that the fire was at five acres, and was 40% contained.

Around 6:10 p.m. Sunday evening, the Sheriff enacted Stage 1 Fire Restrictions for all unincorporated Jefferson County. The restrictions were enacted due to conditions favorable for the possibility of a wildfire.
