The Hayden Pass fire, a wildfire that broke out near Hayden Creek in Fremont County on Saturday, grew to more than 5,000 acres as temperatures climbed and winds picked up Sunday.
The U.S. Forest Service ordered evacuation of the Hayden Creek campground, on Hayden Creek Road. The campground is on Forest Service land. The fire started about 20 miles southeast of Salida near Coaldale, and as of Monday morning’s update was at 5,100 acres and zero containment.
Forest Service fire crews are working the fire, according to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office. “Smoke is visible for miles,” the sheriff’s office said. “No immediate threats.”
Fremont County fire crews are also on the scene. The Forest Service has so far not asked for assistance.
