An illegal Roman candle apparently ignited a grass fire that burned about a quarter-acre of grass and several cottonwood trees Monday near the parking lot of Heritage Square Amusement Park.
The fire was extinguished without causing damage to nearby structures because of how fast firefighters arrived at the scene, said Debbie Testroet, spokeswoman for Golden.
Firefighters from Golden Fire Rescue were called at 12:32 p.m. and arrived at the fire within one minute, Testroet said.
“We had it knocked down in 10 or 15 minutes,” she said.
She warned that fireworks are illegal in Golden.
“If we catch them they will be written a citation,” Testroet said.
