Why do you play Jenga? For the love of the game? Or for all the money and fame that rides on every brick?
Those are the (essential, essential) questions swirling around the heart of the latest video by Brooklyn funk band Pimps of Joytime, who are set to make their debut at the hallowed shrine of Red Rocks on Thursday when they .
The video for “Dance Cardia” follows bandleader Brian J, “The Hustler,” as he makes his way to a showdown with “The People’s Champion,” a tiny boy with more sass than most folks twice his age. The two end up doing Jenga battle in a train yard, which if you pay attention to the beginning, is home turf for The People’s Champion. That little wrinkle could put the whole competition into question, especially for all those bookies who stand to lose dozens of cents on the showdown.
Or maybe we’re reading too far into it. Either way, the song is funky as advertised, and features some wonderfully off-kilter horns care of jam oddballs Rubblebucket.
