Ninety-two percent of sexual assault victims at the University of Colorado did not report their assaults to the university or police, primarily because they didn’t think it was serious enough or because they blamed themselves for what happened.
The low number of students who — and their reasons for not telling campus authorities — were revealed Tuesday as the Boulder campus released a second round of data from the that more than 13,000 students participated in last fall.
CU and other agencies must find a way to overcome those reporting barriers as they continue work to encourage victims of sexual assault to come forward.
