Led by the ski team’s 23rd NCAA championship, the men’s hockey team’s appearance at the NCAA Frozen Four and the national floor title won by women’s gymnast Nina McGee, the University of Denver again has the most successful athletic department among all non-football schools. For the fourth consecutive time and eighth overall, the Pioneers captured the Learfield Sports DI-AA Directors’ Cup.

Including schools with football programs, DU finished 52nd, its fourth-highest ever, for the 2015-16 school year.

DU’s men’s soccer, volleyball, men’s lacrosse and men’s and women’s tennis advanced to NCAA Division I tournaments, and the women’s gymnastics and golf teams made it to NCAA regionals.

“This trophy continues to be one of the major goals our athletic department strives for every year, and I’m very proud of our student-athletes, coaches and staff for accomplishing this crowning achievement once again,” DU athletic director Peg Bradley-Doppes said in a news release. “Our tremendous student-athletes continue to perform at an extremely high level both in the classroom and on their respective playing surfaces. The DU student-athletes, coaches and staff share this trophy and success with our loyal fans, generous donors and sponsors of DU athletics.”
