Five firefighters heading to the Hayden Pass fire were injured Thursday afternoon in a crash on Interstate 25.
The U.S. Forest Service said the group sustained only minor injuries and were observed, treated and released by staff at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. Officials did not say where the crash happened or what caused the wreck.
“We are thankful to report that the five firefighters only sustained minor injuries and are in good spirits,” Acting Regional Forester Jacque Buchanan said in a statement.
The USFS said the five were part of an interagency fire crew assigned to the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests that was traveling to the Hayden Pass fire.
Hundreds of firefighters have been working the Cold Springs fire outside Nederland that burned partly in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests.
