FILE – This Jan. 22, 2015 file photo shows the Egyptian Theatre on Main Street during the first day of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Every January, the streets of the mountain town of Park City, Utah, light up as the Robert Redford-founded Sundance Film Festival pulls in big names to introduce future Oscar winners and eye-opening documentaries. Tickets for many screenings during the festival that starts Jan. 21, 2016, are publicly available, and there are ways to get in on the action and still have some cash left over for popcorn. Ogden, Utah, will no longer host events for the Sundance Film Festival.
The Standard-Examiner reports that the Sundance Institute has announced that there will no longer be January Sundance Film Festival events at Peery’s Egyptian Theater.
Sundance Managing Director Sarah Pearce says they will be transitioning the Ogden extension of the Park City-based festival to a more community-based program. There will now be local screenings in Ogden during the summer and fall.
Pearce says she understand there will be disappointment due to the change but that she hopes Ogden residents will attend or volunteer at festival events in Park City and Salt Lake City.
The festival was founded by Robert Redford.
