Aurora police officers responding early Thursday to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex found a man fatally wounded.
At about 12:45 a.m. Thursday, police began receiving calls about shots being fired at the Viridian at the Gardens on Havana Apartment Complex near the intersection of East Garden Drive and South Havana Street.
When officers arrived in the area, they found a man with a gunshot wound in a vehicle a few hundred feet from the complex. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials say.
The Arapahoe County coroner’s office on Thursday afternoon identified the man as 21-year-old Alexander Joseph Johnson.
“He died from a gunshot wound of his chest and his death is classified as a homicide,” the coroner’s office said in a news release.

The shooting remains under investigation, according to Aurora police. No suspect descriptions were available as of mid-morning.
