Bodies of two men pulled from Colorado River identified, investigation ongoing

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office has identified two men whose bodies were pulled from the Colorado River in Grand Junction on Sunday.

The man who was was identified Thursday as Richard Shoemaker, 49, of Grand Junction.

About two hours after recovering Shoemaker’s body, first responders found another body in the river, near the Persigo drainage ditch, identified on Wednesday as Gary Keffer.

Keffer was a 44-year-old described as a transient in the area, according to a news release from the Mesa County coroner’s office.

Additional information, including the cause of death for either man, was not released because of an ongoing investigation, according to the coroner’s office statement.
