Search and rescue teams are resuming their efforts Friday morning to find a 19-year-old man missing since late Wednesday near the Gore Canyon on the Colorado River.
The Grand County Sheriff’s Office says the teen, from Avon, was rafting Wednesday with his friend and had stopped to camp for the night. When the friend went to look for firewood about midnight, he returned to find his friend missing, authorities say.
“He said he searched the area, all night, and called 911 in the morning,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
An “extensive” ground search of the area was completed on Thursday and a Flight for Life helicopter also aided in the efforts.
“Rafters in the area have assisted in checking along the banks of the river,” the release said. “After approximately eight hours, the focus of the search shifted to include a water search near the campsite. This area is extremely remote and is not accessible by vehicle.”
The teen’s name has not been released.
