Weld County prosecutors announced on Friday that they have cleared the officers involved .

District Attorney Michael J. Rourke said the officers were justified when they wounded 29-year-old Andrew Joseph Gerold at 764 Saddleback Drive.

Milliken police officers were called to the address on a report of a man on drugs “going berserk” with a gun. Officials say when officers arrived they found Gerold was in the basement of a home with his wife, who had been shot.

Gerold faces several charges in the encounter, including first-degree assault causing serious injury with a deadly weapon and two counts of felony menacing. He also is accused of being a previous offender in possession of a weapon.

Police officers from Milliken, Evans and Platteville all were called to the scene.

The Weld County District Attorney’s Office declined to release a comprehensive report on the shooting citing the ongoing criminal case against Gerold.
