MORRISON — Multiple rainstorms rolled over Bandimere Speedway on Friday evening, turning the first qualifying session of the 37th Mopar Mile-High Nationals into a delayed four-hour affair. The re-scheduled second session was to run late into the night, barring more showers.

Steve Torrence, the defending event top fuel winner, peeled off the fastest run of the first session, joining funny car’s John Force as a provisional pole winner after the first of four qualifying efforts. Torrence produced a track-record time of 3.787 seconds (323.43 mph) and Force went a funny car track record 3.959 seconds (317.79 mph).

Alex Laughlin was on the top of the ladder in pro stock (6.990, 197.59) and Eddie Krawiec was quickest in pro stock motorcycle (7.177, 186.72).

Saturday’s third and fourth qualifying sessions are scheduled for 4 and 6:30 p.m., although more rain is in the forecast. Sunday’s eliminations are slated to begin at 11 a.m.
