PHILADELPHIA — Among the many fashion statements on display this week at the Democratic National Convention is a white hat with a simple message: “Bernie Peace.”
The baseball cap — which features a dove wearing glasses and holding an olive branch — was the brainchild of several Colorado Democrats and local artist Albert Stern.
Its creators said it is intended to remind supporters of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders that the Vermont lawmaker stands for peace and that violence at the convention never should be an option — no matter how angry his supporters may be at the results.
“We were worried about the violence. We could see the writing on the wall,” said Emilie Mitcham, a Sanders delegate from north Denver and Stern’s fiancée.
The two said they have distributed hundreds of the hats to delegates inside the convention, as well as demonstrators outside the convention. The logo also appears on .
“A revolution does not have to be violent,” Mitcham said.
