A 28-year-old woman was killed late Sunday night after she was thrown from an SUV during a crash in which the driver was believed to be intoxicated and speeding.

It wasn’t clear who was driving the SUV at the time of the incident because both occupants — the woman and a 31-year-old man — were both ejected from the car, according to a news release by Lt. Michael McClelland of the Aurora Police Department.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he is in stable condition.

The names of the two people have not been released.

Witnesses told police that a black Ford Explorer was traveling at high speed when it crashed at 10:45 a.m. on a curve near South Chambers Road and Crestline Avenue.

The SUV struck the curb and several signal light poles, causing it to roll, according to the news release.

Aurora police patrol and traffic officers responded to the crash in which the occupants of the SUV were found on the ground.

Police believe that neither of the two were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The woman was taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Her death was the 11th traffic-related fatality in Aurora in 2016, according to the news release.
