NEW YORK — Rockies rookie shortstop Trevor Story, who leads the National League with 27 home runs, was removed from Saturday night’s game against the Mets in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Rockies went on to beat the Mets 7-2 for their ninth win in their last 10 games.

Story jammed his left thumb while diving for a groundball single by New York’s Justin Ruggiano in the bottom of the fourth. However, Story first injured the thumb while sliding into second base in the top of the inning.

The Rockies diagnosed Story with a jammed left thumb and X-rays came back negative. He’s expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Mets but might be ready to play on Tuesday when the Rockies host the Dodgers at Coors Field.

“The good news is the X-rays were negative,” head trainer Keith Dugger said. “So there is nothing broken. He’s going to be sore tomorrow and we will see if (the thumb) balloons up. He’ll rest tomorrow and then we have an off day on Monday, so we will see if he’s good to go on Tuesday.”
