FORT COLLINS — Another step closer.
Tuesday, Colorado State invited many of the top supporters of the on-campus stadium project to the topping off ceremony — the placement of the final piece of structural steel — the latest step toward the completed project the football team will call home beginning in the 2017 season.
CSU president Tony Frank said the opening will be a “welcome home” for all Rams, and that’s how he signed the final beam before it was lifted into place.
For athletic director Joe Parker, this is the fourth time in his career he has been part of stadium construction. While he said he wasn’t in Fort Collins for the heavy lifting — garnering the support and final approval to build — he has been on hand for all the heavy machinery.
“All the others were renovations of existing facilities, so it’s really fun to be a part of something that’s green-field site, ground up,” Parker said. “The others were already on campus, and that’s the neat thing, when people get to experience what this will mean, a chance to be on campus and really understand the institution when you’re here for a football game.”
