Colorado’s popular peaks

In a given year, hikers climb Colorado’s 54 14ers around 260,000 times. And the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative is hoping that number — combined with the fact that hikers spend about $275 per 14er trip — will get local communities to spend money maintaining the trails those valuable hikers are using. is fantastic, per usual, but you should definitely check out the heat map our intern put together (about ) to show which peaks are getting the most traffic.

Even though it’s been under way for nearly a year, documents reviewed by The Denver Post yesterday showed that into the Gold King Mine spill that tainted the Animas River last year. This has made the Republican members of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs happy, as they’ve for some time.
