An inmate was found hanging in his cell in the Arapahoe County jail Wednesday night.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office sent out a news release Thursday afternoon about the incident.
According to the release, the inmate was discovered at about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday hanging from a noose that “appeared to have been fashioned from bedsheets.”
Deputies removed the sheets, and they and medical responders performed CPR. The man was pronounced dead just before 10 p.m.
The inmate has been identified as 50-year-old Jered Maes.
Maes was booked into the Arapahoe County Detention Facility on July 27, when he was arrested by the Aurora Police Department on allegations of driving under the influence. The release states that Maes had a bail of $25,000, but it had not been posted.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Arapahoe County coroner’s office are conducting an investigation.
